Frequently asked questions

WHAT IS A BJD?

BJD means Ball Jointed Doll, a doll that has articulated joints which let her move, change and hold poses.

HOW ARE THESE DOLLS ARE MADE?

"MB art dolls" are cold porcelain ball-jointed dolls sculpted, painted and hand-assembled. After sculpting a prototype with clay, the pieces are cast in plaster mold with cold porcelain slip, and worked up until a smooth surface is obtained. Painted with soft pastels and costumed with hand-sewn dresses and magnetic wigs, each "MB art dolls" is a unique piece of art.

ARE THESE DOLLS FRAGILE?

The cold porcelain that I use is really strong, but due to the small dimention of the dolls some parts like fingers are fragile and dropping or hitting the dolls might damage it. Anyway dressing them up, changing wigs, playing with different poses wont' ruin them. You have to be gentle but not scared to handle them

DO YOU ACCEPT CUSTOM ORDERS?

Yes, I can make custom dolls and miniatures. Just contact me here and I will be glad to discuss with you the details of your custom order! The details of the doll can be changed only a little as the pieces are cast in plaster molds, but any concept of the doll will be evaluated and I will try to do everything possible to satisfy your ideas.

HOW CAN I TAKE CARE OF MY DOLL?

These dolls are collectibles and need to be handled gently and with great care. Please take extra care around fingers and the smallest and thinnest parts. Most importantly: - To clean your doll, never use chemical cleaners or water (cold porcelain absorbs water and if immersed, it loses its consistency, softening and consequently breaking). Use a feather duster or a soft cloth to gently remove surface dust. if the dirt persists, use a slightly damp cloth, trying first on a hidden part. - To brush the hair use a tiny comb. If knots form, do not force them but try to gently loosen them. - Avoid displaying your doll in direct sunlight. If exposed for too long, direct sunlight can damage paint, accessories and clothes. - Keep your doll away from extreme temperatures and moisture. Those dolls are not meant to be placed outdoors but indoors. - If you wish to change the pose extreme care should be taken. Joints should never be forced. Extreme pressure on joints can cause loss of elasticity of the spring or breakage of cold porcelain.
